About Cornell SensTech

A newly created organization that is aimed to compete in the international SensUs competition.

Who We Are

SensTech is a registered club at Cornell University and we plan to register for project team status in Spring 2024. SensTech is a participant in an international competition called SensUs, where teams from across the globe compete in the Netherlands to create the most cost-effective, user-friendly, and sensitive biosensor that can be used outside a lab. The theme changes every year and for 2023-2024, the theme is continuous monitoring of creatinine for kidney function.

The SensTech team is composed of 13 highly motivated students from diverse majors who are collaborating to create the biosensor, design a business plan and fundraise, as well as market the project. Throughout the year, scientists and industry experts who are partnered with SensUs will meet with the team regularly over Zoom to advise the team on the project and prepare for the SensUs competition.

SensUs Competition

SensUs is an annual international competition where teams across the world compete to create the most sensitive, user-friendly, and accurate biosensor based on a given analyte and medium. Teams are free to choose how they develop their sensor and what techniques are used. This results in a variety of designs each year for each new prompt.

Health partners, stakeholders, and professors attend and judge the teams' biosensors based on creativity and the potential to get on the market. Four awards are given out each year which include: The Analytical Performance award, the Creativity award, the Translation Potential award, and the Public Inspiration award. SensUs is a great opportunity for networking with companies and professionals all within the field of biosensing and healthcare. SensUs' overall goal is to improve healthcare with personal systems that can easily, precisely, and conveniently monitor a user's health by detecting biomarkers that may indicate a disease.
